The Kurumbas of Nilgiris

Visiting students from a leading international school in Bangalore attended a Kurumbas tribal art workshop organized by One Earth Foundation.  The Kurumbas are a Primitive Tribal Group that reside on the steep slopes of Western Ghats in the district of Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu.  Kurumbas art has few practitioners left and One Earth Foundation endeavors to create awareness about this and other Traditional arts and crafts that are rapidly disappearing.

Many of the  30+ students who visited the Kurumbas village  were eager to learn this art and stated that they would share this information and experience with their friends in school.  They learnt how colour was obtained from the resin of tress and leaves and also drew some basic motifs.
