Visiting students from a leading international school in Bangalore attended a Kurumbas tribal art workshop organized by One Earth Foundation.  The Kurumbas are a Primitive Tribal Group that reside on the steep slopes of Western Ghats in the district of Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu.  Kurumbas art has few practitioners left and One Earth Foundation endeavors to create awareness about this and other Traditional arts and crafts that are rapidly disappearing.  [ Read More ]

Art for a cause: ISC Student’s Camp in Nilgiris

Tribal Art Camps initiated in Burliar Region of Nilgiris

  The Burliar hills (ranging from 2500 ft till 3500 ft above MSL) en-route from Mettupalayam to Coonoor is home to about 5% of the total Kurumbas tribal population.   ASs you are aware, the Kurumbas are a Schedules tribe and also declared a Primitive Tribal Group (PTG) and the Kurumbas are found only in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. Students on field trip learn about kurumbas & their art

On a field trip to the Nilgiris, exploring the tribal culture and the ecology of the region, 12th grade students from a leading Gwalior based school visited a Kurumbas village on the lower elevations of the blue mountains.  31 boys accompanied by 3 teachers were all set to learn about the Kurumbas – a primitive tribal group residing in the Nilgiris.   The group was enthusiastic to know  about the art  [ Read More ]

Mercy Home Children participate in Camp II
